Through Our Dialogue (TOD) is a collective development project initiated by Malmö Art Museum that explores questions of institutional accessibility and inclusivity in collaboration with a group of young artists and cultural workers with physical and mental disabilities.
Through an open call, a dialogue group has been formed to work together over the course of a year on a participatory programme of conversations, workshops, and shared experiences. The knowledge, reflections, and exchanges generated through the project are being compiled into a tool that will be distributed to public art institutions working with themes related to health, wellbeing, accessibility, and inclusion.
As public cultural institutions continue to engage in processes of transformation, questions of equality and accessibility remain central. Despite growing commitment to these issues, museums often develop programmes about and for underrepresented communities without directly involving the people concerned. TOD seeks to build meaningful connections and generate new knowledge that can inform more collaborative ways for public institutions to work with their communities. By developing new participatory and educational approaches, the project investigates how museums can challenge common assumptions, generalisations, and social stigmas through their content, communication, and public engagement.
